Your barrier-free movement start here

Ministry of Internal Affairs, UNDP Ukraine, 2024

Russia’s full-scale invasion has drastically increased the number of people with disabilities in Ukraine — now over 3 million. Many of them have lost not only physical abilities but also the belief that they could live independently.

But driving isn’t just about cars and licenses.
It’s about freedom, dignity, and reclaiming control over one’s life.

The name “Driving Schools for People with Disabilities” was changed to “Barrier-Free Driving Schools” — a shift that more accurately reflects their purpose: creating equal opportunities to learn to drive and obtain a driver’s license.
At the heart of our approach is barrier-free communication: we focus first and foremost on the individual — their experience, their path, and their possibilities.

We launched an integrated communication campaign that shifted the narrative — from disability to opportunity.
The core message was captured in the slogan: “Your barrier-free movement starts here” — emphasizing not just the ability to drive, but the freedom of movement and active living these schools unlock.

Two main videos — one emotional and one documentary-style — showed how getting behind the wheel can transform lives.
Posters, flyers, and digital tools provided clear answers and made the project visible to those ready to take the next step.
We weren’t just promoting driving schools — we were breaking the most invisible barrier:
Not the physical one, but the belief that “This is no longer for me.”

People saw themselves. Their parents. Their friends.
And they believed again: “I can’t” became “I can.”

This project carries special value today, as thousands of Ukrainians have been injured or traumatized by Russia’s war.
Barrier-Free Driving Schools help them acquire or restore driving skills — often becoming the first step toward returning to an active, independent life.
